The Digital Modul-R is a 10.2 megapixel back which turns the Leica R8
& R9 35mm film cameras into the only cameras on the planet capable
of both film and digital imaging.

Intoduced in 2005 and discontinued in 2007.  It was expected to be replaced,
in the fall of '08 by the R10, an all digital body. However, the R series
was cancelled in 2008,when Leica promised an "adequate soluton"
for those who used "R" series glass. The new Leica "M", with it's optional
EVF and 'R to M' adapter filled the void, in 2013.
